Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick's Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure. Mairyn's story is different. We received her cancer diagnosis AFTER she had passed. She was a healthy, active 12 year old. Bright, bubbly & kind. She woke up Monday, November 21, 2016 not feeling well. She complained of a headache and feeling constipated with a slight fever. Over the course of the next two days she displayed flu like symptoms. In the wee hours of Thanksgiving morning, November 24, 2016 her dad took her to the emergency room after she became lethargic. Mairyn never came home. She entered the gates of Heaven at 8:09 am. At the time, the doctors said she had an infection that somehow got into her bloodstream (sepsis) which ultimately led to septic shock. Fast forward nine weeks later, a call from the coroner with the results from Mairyn's autopsy : Full blown B-cell lymphocytic leukemia at the time of her death! How could that even be possible? There were no signs. Mairyn was perfect. It's not fair, we never had a chance to fight for her. Our hope is that by us sharing her story we can help others & spread awareness. Mairyn is missed dearly. She lives on in the hearts of us all.
