Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year!
I am 2.5 and am heading into my second fight against Kidney Cancer. I was diagnosed with a rare WT1 gene mutation (I'm the only one known in the world with my exact mutation) which caused me to be born with bilateral kidney masses.
I underwent chemotherapy from 8-14 months old, and during that time had a surgical biopsy and full removal of my right kidney since that wilms tumor continued to grow despite the chemotherapy. After 15 months post chemotherapy, my MRI showed that the worrisome cells in my remaining kidney had grown suddenly over the last 3 months. These cells were always there but never grew or caused any trouble until now. I underwent chemo again from when I was 2.5-3 years old and had a portion of my remaining kidney removed. I now have only 2/3 of a single kidney and will likely need a kidney transplant later in life, but I’m thrilled to be cancer free again!
I'm so grateful for our medical team (who constantly confers with other leading children's hospitals) to make sure that my second fight against these tumors is successful, too!
