Mahalia White, Big West's Freshman of the Year and All-Big West First Teamer from UC Davis, is currently competing against her latest opponent , Stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She played through a full season of back pain, while thinking that it was a strain from all of the physical activity that she was doing. After season, she went to get an MRI of her back to see what was wrong, and on December 4th, the day after her 19th birthday, she received the bad news that her back pain was actually cancer. Mahalia started her treatment towards the beginning of January 2018, and is going into her 4th treatment. Despite her situation, Mahalia has been very optimistic, maintained her vibrant sense of humor, and has been an inspiration to many. After all of this is over, Mahalia plans on returning to the court and pick up where she left off. She is a fighter!
