Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
Brooks was diagnosed with Juvenille Pilocytic Astrocytoma in August 2016. He had been suffering from headaches for over 6 months and after half a dozen visits to numerous pediatricians we did not have a cause of the headaches. On August 15th 2016 he woke up with a bad headache and began vomiting. No medication was helping with the pain.
I took him that day to Radys Children's Hospital Emergency Room and finally was able to get him a CT scan. The scan showed a large tumor in his posterior fossa. We were immediately admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit and Brooks was taken to MRI. Two days later Brooks had a 7 hour brain surgery to remove the tumor.
He spent one week in the hospital and then we got the amazing news that the tumor was benign and no further treatment was necessary right now.
Brooks took a couple of months to recover his balance and still suffers from headaches. He has an MRI every 3 months to check on the status of his brain and make sure there is not a recurrence.
