Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
Carmen was diagnosed at 21 months old with giant cell gleoblastoma. This type of cancer is predominantly found in 40+ year old males. Not female toddlers. Since diagnoses we did 3 standard rounds of chemo then 3 rounds of stem cell transplants with intense chemotherapy. That lasted roughly 8 months and we had our last clear scan in march of 2016 and we're finally able to go home. We had routine MRI scans ever 3 months to monitor for new or regrowth. Unfortunately her MRI in September of 2016 showed a new tumor in the same spot. This time with her being almost 3 years old everyone decided radiation was appropriate now. So she underwent 30 rounds of focused radiation on the tumor area of her brain. She finished that dec 11 2016. Now we are back to MRI scans every three months and continue to just hope for the best.
