My Story

Ireland began having very sporadic headaches, often accompanied with brief vomiting, since Thanksgiving weekend, 2016. When we mentioned it to her Primary Care Provider at her 3 year wellness check, the following week, both he and I felt confident that Ireland has been exposed to a common virus/flu. That said, we had very little concern. Dec 14th, while vacationing in Southern Cali, she became inconsolable at dinner that night, and began to complain of head pain/vomit, shortly after becoming agitated. At this point, it seemed to be happening at times when we were travelling, and we assumed it to be overstimulation/lack of sleep (she has NEVER been a good sleeper). Finally, when she had another episode on the 21st, we took her to our local ER where they assured us that her neurological responses looked fine and recommended we follow up with our Primary Care Provider, a week later. At this appointment, they identified a lack of coordination/slight impairment on her left hand and foot. A referral was written for her to see a neurologist at Seattle Children's Hospital, the following week. As the weekend progressed, the impairment of her left side quickly began to worsen, and we started to see a change in her face. The left side of her face began to droop. With the holiday, we couldn't reach anyone to gain medical advice on her situation and chose to follow daddy's intuition. Her insisted we load the car, bypass our local hospital and get her into the ER in Seattle. Within half an hour of her arrival, doctors were talking about their suspicions of a brain tumor. A CAT scan confirmed our fears....a large mass, growing in her brain. Ireland was formally diagnosed on Jan 11th, with an aggressive form of brain cancer (ETMR). Fortunately, surgery (on Jan 4th) was successful in removing the entire tumor. She is currently undergoing 8 months of chemo/radiation, and we hope for her to be cancer-free by fall 2017! Thank you for you interest in her story and comittment to helping us find a cure! Bio:Ireland is a sassy, strong-willed, three year old, only child! She loves to care for her pups, bunnies and go to church with her family. Ireland hopes to adopt her own kitty, once treatment is complete. Her number one goal is to beat cancer and start preschool, with her cousin Jack, in the fall!
