Hayden's parents thought he might have a concussion after he bumped his head twice in one weekend. It took two emergency room visits, a CAT-scan and finally an MRI at a hospital near home to discover Hayden had a tumor resting on his brain stem.
Devastated with the news and facing brain surgery for their son, his parents took the advice of their doctors to seek treatment at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Hayden was airlifted to St. Jude so he could pursue a lifesaving course of treatment.
Hayden's treatment has included chemotherapy, brain surgery and radiation therapy. His dad describes Hayden as a super smart 5-year-old, perceptive and resilient throughout treatment. Now, Hayden is cancer free, and he returns to St. Jude every 3 months for check-ups.
