My Story
Ok so if you know me you know that I am no stranger to a bald head! My name is Jacob AKA The Leukemia Slayer. I was diagnosed with high risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia on December 2, 2010 when I was nine years old. I lost my hair during treatment a few times and quickly found out that a head gets pretty cold without hair! Leukemia treatment is very long, three and a half years for me, and I am proud to say I finished my treatment on March 22, 2014.
When my oncologists at Duke told me they were having a St Baldrick's shave for childhood cancer just a couple of days before my one year off treatment anniversary, I said count me in! Going bald for childhood cancer research is the perfect way to celebrate my big day!
Childhood cancer research is sadly underfunded and that is why so many families that are affected by childhood cancer do fundraising to help find a cure. Every dollar makes a difference for all the kids who have cancer, who had cancer and who will have cancer in the future.
Raising money to help find a cure for childhood cancer means a lot to me and I am very thankful to all my friends and family for their support, together we can help find a cure for childhood cancer!!!
I love quotes and this is one of my favorites "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."— Ralph Waldo Emerson
