Glori, a 14 y/o, has a twin sister, Lillie, two cats (Blackie & Callie) and lives with her Mom & Dad. Our lives were changed on Monday, October 7, 2013, after having abnormal blood test results at her pediatrician's office Glori was sent to the ER at Kosair's . More blood tests were done, along with a lot of conversation and she was admitted. The following day, on 10/8/14, her mommy & aunt were taken into the unit chappel by the doctor, pastor & several members of the team, to discuss what was going on with Glori. We were informed that Glori had Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia and basically, after much discussion, would need about 3 years of treatment. We all then went back to Glo's room & told her. Once they all left, mommy & aunt discussed everything with Glori. One of her first question was if she was going to die. We assured her that she will not die from this, that we all will do whatever is necessary to see her through this and keep her with us.
The following day,10/9/14, which happens to be her daddy's birthday, Glori had surgery to insert an infusaport, had a bone marrow biopsy & lumbar puncture with chemo injected into her spine. She also began her first of many IV chemo treatments.
Since then she has had a ton of chem, many, many lumbar punctures w/ chemo injected and a couple other bone marrow biopsies. Admitted to the hospital for various reasons, many doctor appontments, leg braces, physical therapy, lost her hair, had to take insulin for a while and missed 90% of her 7th grade year in school & was home schooled. Basically, anything you can imagine. YET through it ALL she has been the bravest person I have ever known.
She is now on maintenance treatment, consisting of many oral medications, lumbar punctures & chemo monthly and frequent doctor appontments, BUT she is doing great.
She has had her twin sister, Lillie, by her side as much as possible and Glori feels so much better when Lillie is with her. A true testament to the bond of sibling love.
As always, Thank You God for letting us all keep the gift of Glori and help her get through the next several years until she will be considered CURED
