My Story

On Monday, February 11th 2013, Kali Grace was taken to the ER in Bismarck because she was having problems with her balance and wasn’t acting like her normal 2 ½ year old self. A CT scan revealed a large tumor on the left side of her brain. She was immediately flown to the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Surgery to remove the tumor was performed the next afternoon, and the doctor’s feel they removed about 96% of the tumor. The tumor was diagnosed as an Ependymoma WHO Grade III which is cancerous. In the coming weeks and months she underwent two different rounds of chemotherapy, 33 days of radiation and 3 more surgeries to battle the tumor. Otherwise Kali had begun to get back to her old self and Run, Play and generally act as a 3 year old should. Her hair had begun to slowly grow back as the new meds did not effect hair. Kali was a true champ most times helping her staff administer herself meds or retrieve blood from her own port. Even trying to help other kids get through their clinic visits by trying to help with their meds or showing them her port, IV Tubes or just sharing her popcorn. February of 2014 Kali's tumor's returned but this time it was to her entire spine. Surgery was completed in the cities and another round of radiation. Sadly, on May 4th, 2014 after a 15 month brave battle, Kali became an angel. She was the most bravest person and we are so proud of her. We love you so much and miss you Kali.
