Dawson was diagnosed with ALL on December 10th 2012. He was taken in to his regular doctor for a rash called Petechiae. Within 15 minutes of leaving the doctors office we were told Dawson's blood work came back, and it looked like he may have leukemia, and we needed to get him to Children's Hospital right away. He was in the hospital for 7 days while we got the exact type of leukemia we were dealing with, and the start of his treatment plan. As his parents, this was the worst day of our lives. Today, over a year later, Dawson is responding well to treatment, and looks to be done with treatment in February 2016. We have to put Dawson through things that no child should ever have to go through. We have had to hold him down as he screams in pain and fear, we have had to force him to take medicines that taste horrible, only to have him throw them up and then start all over again. He has had multiple spinal taps and chemo treatments, he lost his hair and gained 20 pounds in a month. He became self-conscious and did not like looking at himself in the mirror. Every time Dawson has a fever of 101.1 or higher, we have to take him to the hospital. Through all of it, our son still smiles, and we make sure he enjoys his life. He is brave, and our hero.
