Renae was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on 1/31/2013 at Children's Hospital - Milwaukee, WI. She has completed four rounds of chemo and was hospitalized for 97 days out of 120 days and was released on 5/30/13. She is currently in remission and cancer free based on her last bone marrow aspirate that was completed on 6/13/13. She is having her central line removed on 6/18/13 and will now be going back for monthly check-ups. Friends, family and the community along with the staff at Children's Hospital have been key elements in helping Renae in surviving her journey and keeping such a positive attitude. You can see her complete story on facebook at PrayForRenaeMetke.
During Renae's monthly check-up on 8/15 there were indications that the leukemia was back. A bone marrow aspirate was taken on 8/16 and was confirmed that the leukemia is back. Renae will be re-admitted to Children's Hospital on 8/20 and we will meet with her doctors to come up with her treatment plan and possible bone marrow transplant.
