My Story

Kayleen was diagnosed with AML Leukemia on March 8th of 2012. She went through 7 rounds of Chemo, each being a month long stay at the hospital. She went into remission, after 4 rounds , for about 4 months and then relapsed. She did not go into remission again. She never made it to a bone marrow transplant. She passed away with Mom and Dad at her side on May 3rd, 2013. The Chemo and experimental meds did not hit the core cancer cells in her bone marrow. The Adult Chemo meds were hard on her body. She pushed through with a strong spirit and a smile that lit up the room. We know that through the donation her DNA in the Bone marrow, she may help other kids. DNA based meds is what may have saved her, but she was far to early for those. I hope that someday there is a cure for, and that Kayleen helped out. Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
