My Story

Before I was born, I was diagnosed wth Down Syndrome. It was a little scary for my mommy and daddy, but they knew that God had a plan. After I was born I spent six days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit because I had pulmonary hypertension which means that oxygen wasn't getting to all the places in my body that it needed to go. But I got better and got to go home to my two brothers! It was in the NICU that the doctors first noticed that I had low platelets and white blood count. My mommy and daddy were told to see a specialist, and that's when I met Dr. Sharp! Dr. Sharp is a wonderful doctor! He's kind, calm and very, very smart. He watched my numbers for 15 months before I was diagnosed with Acute Megakaryoblastic Leukemia. My mommy and daddy were scared, but even though I'm cute and soft, I'm really very tough! Thanks to the grace of God and the loving and dedicated doctors and nurses at Children's Hospital of Austin, I've been in remission for a year!
