My Story

Lillianna was diagnosed with High-Risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on April 22, 2011. She showed no signs at all of being sick. At 10:30am she was taken to a dentist appointment and the dentist noticed her gums would bleed a bit when pressed upon. We were immediately sent to the pediatrician and had a leukemia diagnosis by noon. Her pediatrician said to me, "This diagnosis is a reality changer." He could not have been more right...our lives are nothing like they were before and never shall be. Lillianna is a very strong-willed little girl with a ton of spirit. She loves animals of all kinds, but she especially loves dinosaurs and snakes! She knows the names of just about every dinosaur and her favorite show is Dino Dan. She also loves to watch snake videos and have people read her educational books about snakes. Whenever she has to go to clinic she loves to terrorize her nurses and doctors with her remote control snake. When she is hospitalized, her room has plenty of stuffed snakes and other animals there to keep her company. Unfortunately, she has been hospitalized quite a bit on her journey, so the nurses are used to seeing a Black Mamba hanging off of Peter Pole, her IV pole. She is nearing the end of her second to last intensive rounds of chemo and will hopefully enter Maintenance around Memorial Day.
