My Story
This is our second year joining the cause. Chase is 18 months old now and is still undergoing treatment for this horrible disease. He is developing right on track. His illness does not let him down. Through all his Chemotherapy and medications, he smiles and loves to see people and interact with them.
When Chase was 1 month old, we took him to get his immunizations. The pediatrician saw that his stomach was abnormally large and sent us to get an emergency ultrasound. The ultrasound showed that Chase's liver and spleen were enalrged. We were sent to Syracuse Golisanos Children's Hospital where Chase was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). I remember that nigh all too well.
I will never forget the words that were told to me that night on October 5. It was 2 am when the Oncologist came in and told me that it was Leukemia and that we needed to prepare ourselves for what may lie ahead. The prognosis was grim. The Cancer isn't rare, but the fact that he was an infant at 1 month was. His White Blood Count was 1.8 million that night.
Chase is now getting Treatment at Albany Medical Center in Albany, where he is part of a study with an experimental drug. He is Albany's first infant on this particular study drug. The goal of this drug is to prevent relapse.
Here we are asking for your help again to fight this demon. These children cannot do it alone
