My Story
Mighty Sydney is the youngest of 5 children. She has three older sisters and one brother. From birth Sydney has been determined, strong willed and has a voice that was meant to be heard. She has a light that touches everyone she meets. At the age of 19 months, on March 15, 2010 I found a lump on the lower left part of her neck. A stat ultrasound confirmed it was a solid mass, then a trip to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh confirmed our worst nightmare. Sydney was dianosed with Extra Osseious Ewings Sarcoma of the left part of herThyroid and neck tissue. Sydney has had 14 cycles of chemotherapy, a trip to Boston Ma for 29 treatments of Proton Beam radiation. She has had a tumor resection, emergency Trachiostomy and feeding tube placement. Among other several surgeries, MRI's, CT scans and Bronchocopies.
Through Sydney's treatment and multiple sugerys, she has has several blood and platelet transfusions, as well as several septic infections & a fungas infection in her power port. She lost the ability to talk, eat through her mouth and walk. This is how she earned her name "Mighty Sydney". She never gave up, not once. She continued to fight through every obsticale that was thrown her way and succeeded. She has always remained positive, smiling and happy even when there was not much to be happy about. She inspires people from all over to not give up and to keep moving forward. She is the bright star in our lives and once you have met "Mighty Sydney" you will never forget her!
Today, October, 11, 2011, Sydney is now 3 years old and is nine months cancer free! Her trachyostomy and feeding tube have been reversed. First she learned sign language to communicate, now she is able to talk loud and clear. She is also walking, running and taking dance lessons. She has just started pre-school and loves it. She plays, laughs and torments her sibelings on a daily basis. She continues to inspire people from all over. We thank God everyday that we were blessed with such a angel. She continues to have an MRI of her neck and chest and bone scans every three months. Our doctors in Pittsburgh keep in continuous contact with the team in Boston. We are so thankful that Sydney is able to run & play like toddler should. We know that every day with Sydney is truely a gift from God!
