My Story

She had just turned 2 when all this began and she really came through it like a champ. She had an Atypical teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (ATRT) in the left side of her brain. The tumor was removed and we had six high dose chemo sessions, 30 spot radiation sessions and numerous visits to about every type of specialist imaginable. She is in remission now, but we still have follow-up visits, blood tests, endocrinologist vists, etc, etc. Alessandra is an awesome little girl. As sweet as they come and generally cares about everyone. She is active in dance, baseball, girl scouts and many other local activities. We are stationed at Camp Darby, Livorno Italy and I am just about to retire from the Air Force after 21 years. Alessandra attends the Livorno Elementary school at Camp darby and really likes it, especially music. I must thank the Air Force for all their support during our time of need. I also want to thank Alessandra, who has taught me much and is my true hero.
