Ian loved playing football and baseball. In a football game in September of 2010 he was hit from front and back in his right tibia by two players from the opposing high school's football team. The medical tests done as a follow up to that injury resulted in the discovery of his osteosarcoma.
Even after 17 chemotherapy treatments and enduring 8 surgeries, Ian continues to be the confident, strong, determined, level headed kid that he always has been. He did not let cancer change who he is.
Ian recently had a follow up surgery to replace the tendons that were removed during the initial limb salvage surgery. He goes for follow up appointments every 6 months. He is currently doing very well as a freshman at Macalester College in St Paul MN.
