My son Robert is a driven, inspiring and compassionate young man who went through a life changing event is Sep. 09'. While competing in a high school cross country event, he was sidelined by heavy coughing. Initially it was thought he had pneumonia but ultimately he was found to have an aggressive germ cell tumor on his lung. Despite chemotherapy, the tumor kept growing and engulfed his left lung which had to be surgically removed in Dec 09'. The chemo, radiation treatments, and loss of his left lung did not keep Robert down, and he was back within just a few short months playing varsity soccer for his high school, as well as full contact ice hockey for our local youth ice hockey team, the Jr. Fayetteville FireAntz. Competitive sports are his true passion.
During this challenging time, Robert has kept an excellent grade point average and has been accepted into Eastern Carolina University, which he plans on attending after graduating high school. He was also voted Jr. Class Home Coming Prince as well as Sr. Class Vice President. He is a popular kid in his school (Fayetteville Christian Academy) and has kept his sense of humor despite what he has gone through. Robert is fluent in Spanish, and a loving brother who helps with the care of his young twin brothers and sister. He also holds a job at a fast food restaurant. It is a fact he has become an inspiration among his peers, as well as many adults who are quite frankly amazed. Thanks for hearing my sons’ story.....
