Kayla's journey with Leukemia began in September of 2009. Our family was devastated as Kayla was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Previous to diagnosis, Kayla was a perfectly healthy girl who played on a girls softball team and was an aspiring gymnast. She has a very strong personality and has always been very determined. We feel these characteristics have aided her in her battle against her cancer. She has responded very well to treatment and has been in remission since October 2009.
Kayla is being treated by the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital. We can't imagine that there is a better place for Kayla's treatment. The folks there are truly a gift to their patients. We hope that Kayla accomplishes the maintenance stage of her treatment plan in May. At this point, Kayla's life will be as close to normal as possible. Kayla's only desire is to have her normal life back!
