This is my sister, Sylvia. She was first diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma when she was 9 yrs old and underwent experimental treatment at M.D. Anderson. She did not have to have her leg amputated and instead underwent radiation along with the chemotherapy treatment. Because of this she was one of the first people, if not the first person, to have a hip replacement on a radiated area. Hopefully saving others from having no other option than to have their limb removed.
She survived this cancer only to be diagnosed with osteosarcoma when she was 16 yrs old. I am glad to say that she survived this cancer as well and went on to marry, adopt children and volunteer her time in making a difference in the lives of children. She did this until her death on January 25, 2010 from complications of ovarian cancer.
I honor her because she blessed me and so many others, with her life.
