My Story
Julia Janes was a most courageous teen and young adult who fought cancer three times. Two days after of her sixteenth birthday she was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a connective tissue cancer that effects teens and children. She had a cocktail of chemotherapies that cured her, but that is not the end of her story. She graduated from high school as a member of the National Honor Society and was Freshman Student of the Year at Bradley University, where she was an education major because she loved kids, and where she started the first ever college chapter of CureSearch, a pediatric cancer research organization.
During her sophomore year, after a regular cancer checkup, she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She fought this evil disease with more chemotherapy and several stem cell transplants, but in November of her 20th year, she passed away. Just weeks before her passing her brother asked her what she wanted to do with her money. She said she wanted to fund cancer research through an organization founded by one of her first oncologists.
Day after day we are blown away by the thoughts, wishes and actions of kids who have no choice but to fight cancer. Now it’s time for us to catch our breath & SPEAK up in her memory.
