I am currently in my 30's and have a clean bill of health but when I was 16 I was diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin's Disease. I went through countless painful chemotherapy treatments, with my hair falling out and me temporarily losing my ability to walk. I relapsed several times and was told I would need a bone marrow transplant to survive. The problem was that I do not have any sibling matches. My options were to find a way to get into remission and go autologous, find a match, or hope for the best. Well my treatment team of doctors and nurses at Children's Hospital Oakland (5 south) got me into remission and I was able to have an autologous bone marrow transplant at UCSF.
Two and a half years of treatment and fighting, I beat cancer!!! I am participating in St. Baldrick's to increase the number of future survivors.
