Katie was a remarkable young girl. She had many talents, including writing. This is a poem she wrote in the hospital in November 8, 2006.
THEY TELL ME TO BE THE MILKY WAY WITH STARS LIKE DIAMONDS SHINING IN THE SKY.
I TELL THEM I AM A SINGLE STAR SPARKLING IN THE SKY LIKE A GEM AMONG THE JEWELS.
THEY TELL ME TO BE THE DESIGNER WHO SELLS TO THE RICH AND FAMOUS.
I TELL THEM I AM THE SPARKLING DRESS THAT HANGS ON THE MANIKIN ELEGANTLY.
THEY TELL ME TO BE A ROSE GARDEN SHEDDING BEAUTY.
I TELL THEM I AM A SINGLE ROSE WITH BEAUTY IN EVERY PEDAL.
THEY TELL ME TO BE AN ICEBERG THAT LOOMS OVER THE SEA OR OCEAN.
I TELL THEM I AM A SINGLE ICE CUBE THAT SPARKLES IN THE SUN IN ANTARCTICA.
Sadly, Katie lost her difficult battle with this horrible disease on August 16, 2007. I hope by working together, we can help put an end to this disease, so no other children have to suffer through it, and so no other parents have to watch their children suffer.
