On October 15, 2008 we were given the news that our 7 year old son, who had spent the whole day at school, had recess and was running around with his cousins like he always had - had a brain tumor. We were off to Upstate University were he underwent many test and then 1 week later had his first surgery. After the surgery we learned that all of the tumor could not be removed because of the location on his brain stem. We spent 5 weeks in the hospital and then went home for 2 weeks before we returned because he was not feeling well. He then had a second surgery to put a shunt in that he will have to have for the rest of his life. We went home for 4 days and were back again for surgery to put his port in and start chemotherapy that would last about 2 years.
We are back home and travel out to Syracuse every week for chemo. Vincent has had to learn to walk all over again, he is still unsteady but he no longer needs to use his walker. After being out of school for 3 1/2 months he is hoping to go back next month. He is also hoping to be able to play baseball again this spring.
He has gone through more than anyone I know. He is my hero!
