Evan was born September 1993. When he was 3 months old he was diagnosed with a malignant P.N.E.T. - a brain tumor. He had surgery the next day and they removed a tumor 1/3 the size of his brain. During the next two years he received experimental chemotherapy and underwent a number of surgeries, too many to count. As a result of the treatment and illnesses, he spent the majority of his first two years alive in the hospital.
He will always have to deal with a number of permanent side effects; including vision and hearing limitations, poor motor skills, and balance among others. The long term side effects of chemotherapy are continuing to reveal themselves.
Today, Evan is an 8th grade student, regularly on the honor roll. He plays the drums, video games and hangs out with his friends. He is healthy and cancer free. He continues to take part in an ongoing study through Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. Doctor's and medical professionals everywhere are constantly amazed at Evan. He is one of the oldest success stories for infant brain tumors out of CHLA.
He is our miracle child. He has been blessed by God.
