My Story

Byron was diagnosed with Rhabdomysarcoma in early May 2022. I first noticed his left eyelid was very droopy. I made an appointment with his primary doctor, she then directed us to an eye doctor. He did a vision test and Byron couldn’t see the big letter E on the chart. So he told us to go to the ER at Strong, and gave us his personal cell number if any of the doctors had any questions. They ran tests- and did an MRI and came back with the cancer diagnosis. That was when we first met Dr. Korones, he delivered the news to us that it was Rhabdomysarcoma. They then transferred us to 7N where we were welcomed with open arms.. and we met Michelle from CURE Childhood Cancer Organization. Later we were told about his treatment journey- chemotherapy & radiation. At first we were told it was very treatable, but unfortunately Byron had to have a shunt put in and it stopped working and his cancer spread and he was too weak to have surgery done. Byron bravely fought his battle till the end and passed on April 14th 2023.
