My Story

Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure. Sweet, energetic, and adventurous Koa was born healthy and happy. Walking at 8 1/2 months he always had to keep up with his big brothers. He even gave them a run for their money a lot of the time. On November 5th, 2024 koa went to the doctors because he had fallen from the kitchen stool and would not walk. Koa was diagnosed with B Cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia that day and he started chemo treatments the very next day. Koas fight would be about 3 1/2 years. We thought that would be his biggest fight of his life but little did we know just weeks into his chemo journey Koa would have to overcome a rare fungal disease called lichthemia ramosa. He would be in the PICU intubated for 10 days and his lungs and liver were severely effected by the fungal disease. He will have to remain on anti fungals for most of his chemo journey. Koa spent 70 days in the hospital and was finally able to get out when he was rushed back to the hospital the next morning. Koa was now fighting against a big arterial bleed in his brain and he would be going into surgery with less than ideal odds due to his leukemia. He made it through the surgery with the surgeon able to get 90% of the bleed. Koa is now relearning how to talk, walk, move his right side of his body, but he’s started chemo back up again and he’s continuing to fight with all he has and with a smile on his face most days.
