In September 2020, Lydia was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of 3. Lydia endured 2.5 years of chemotherapy. Due to a weakened immune system, Lydia battled a fungal infection in her sinuses resulting in additional surgeries, hyperbaric oxygen treatments, received a PICC line and port, and required her medical team to temporarily pause and alter her treatment plan. Treatment is harsh; Lydia suffered through complications including blood clots, spinal headaches, diabetes, bacterial infections, severe allergic reactions, and required 30+ blood and platelet transfusions.
In January 2023, Lydia rang the bell declaring victory over cancer. Today, she is healthy and enjoying life. Lydia is a self-proclaimed mermaid and loves spending time on her boat, swimming,
fishing, camping, cooking, and go-karting.
