Johnathan “Jack” is a senior in high school and the 2024 Kansas 6A State Champion in the 100-yard breaststroke. After returning home from his first official Division I college visit for swimming in early September 2024, he was excited about the academic and athletic experiences ahead of him. The following day he was hospitalized on the oncology floor at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City after imaging, prompted by inflamed lymph nodes, revealed an unknown mass on his thymus. Suddenly, instead of visiting other universities and finishing college applications, he is undergoing chemotherapy treatments on an outpatient basis as he faces the biggest race of his life, beating Hodgkin Lymphoma.
