My Story

At the age of 10, my daughter Aliya began complaining of pain in her hip, which then increased to pain in her neck. She also had episodes of turning pale and feeling nauseous. We took her to see her pediatrician after a week of the pain, she was sent to have an x-ray to rule out scoliosis. The pain increased to her neck, she now was also complaining of a stiff neck. She was taken to the ER, I gave them the list of symptoms she had experienced in the last 3 weeks now, it was then after running multiple lab tests that I was told there were abnormalities in her blood. September 15, 2021, we were transferred from ER to Kaiser Fontana, to meet with Hematologist/Oncologist, it was then it was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Due to Aliya’s age, she was placed under the high-risk protocol, and we enrolled her in a clinical trial through, the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). As of 1/19/2024 she finished treatment and is now in Remission.
