My Story

In October 2023, we took Kara into an urgent care for kids for a fever that wouldn't go away. She had almost no other symptoms and if it wasn't for a feeling I had to take her to this specific place we may not have found the 13 cm mass in Kara's chest. As soon as the doctor saw it she said she would call the radiologist and be right back because what she saw was not the pneumonia she expected to see. Within three minutes she came back in and told us to go straight to the hospital. My whole world crashed down around me and I felt almost numb. My immediate feeling was "she has cancer" but then a warmth and a calm came that told me it was going to be okay. Kara was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma which is a bone cancer that started in her ribs. She immediately started 14 rounds of chemotherapy and 31 days of radiation. Throughout her treatment, Kara has shown her strength and positivity by dancing her way through it. She loves to host pizza parties for the nurses and stop by her friends rooms with gifts to cheer them up. Kara has been a champion, inspiring her family and friends to find the good in each day. Every night before bed, she says one thing she's grateful for that day. Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
