Annie is the smallest girl with the biggest personality who LOVES Taylor Swift and the color purple. She is extremely witty and sassy and full of energy and life. Annie originally got sick in July of 2023. What we thought would be a quick strep swab and diagnosis quickly turned into an ambulance ride to the hospital. While there, we spent a month in and out of the PICU while in septic shock and battling infections in her body. We were discharged in August with a diagnosis of Secondary HLH, more specifically Macrophage Activation Syndrome (MAS). We returned to our normal life after thinking that this was a freak set of infections, and it should never happen again. Come November, Annie's blood counts dropped again and we decided to head to Cincinnati Children's for a second opinion since they are known for their HLH specialists. While there for our initial visit we met with specialists from the HLH team as well as oncologists. It was decided to do a bone marrow biopsy to check and see if something was going on. The next day we got a call that she had B Cell ALL. They believe that because her body was severely infected during our stay in the summer it could have put her into a temporary remission, which would explain why her bone marrow biopsies in the summer did not indicate cancer. Our lives were quickly turned upside down and we had to start the battle for her life. We started our induction phase the day after Christmas and she has been rolling with all the punches throughout treatments since. Her end of treatment date is 4/26/2026 and she can't wait to ring the bell so loud! Child Life at our hospital has made her a Doctor's badge because she IS a doctor. During steroids weeks you can find her eating plates full of broccoli and spinach. We think she is the strongest girl we know, and we know that she WILL live a long, happy, HEALTHY life. #AnniesArmy
