Ellie is just one of many children fighting the biggest battles every single day. Ellie was 4 when she was first diagnosed with leukemia and relapsed when she was 8 . She’s been fighting this disease more than half of her life. She’s been through hospital doors more times than I can count and endured the trauma of procedures that no child should ever experience. Her relapse diagnosis was gut wrenching for all of us, especially Ellie. We all thought when she finished treatment in 2020, it was finally over. Before she was confirmed to relapse , Ellie confided in her teacher that she was not feeling right and thought her cancer was returning. She had gotten sick a month or two prior and as parents, we tried comforting her that she was okay. That day we went back for her follow up lab work changed everything, for the second time.
As a parent, it’s been a painful experience what Ellie has been through. Her dad and I wish we had the power to cure her ourselves and make it all go away. Ellie is a remarkable child that enjoys puzzles, drawing, volleyball and spending time with her friends. Ellie, like many other kids don’t deserve to have their childhood ripped away from them.
Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
