Jared was diagnosed with high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia on December 7, 2004 as a kindergartener. He endured many rounds of oral and IV chemo, spinal taps and hospital stays. While in the hospital he perfected his playstation skills. When he was feeling well, he loved playing football, basketball, kickball and golf with his family and friends and teasing his sister.
During first and second grade, Jared was in the maintenance stage of therapy. People were amazed at how active he was and how accustomed he had become to his chest catheter, monthly spinal taps and daily oral chemo. Besides for occassional nausea and those crazy five days of steroids each month, life was pretty normal.
Then in the summer of 2007, the leukemia returned. After a brief remission, the leukemia relapsed again. One final attempt at remission with high-dose chemo so that a bone marrow transplant could be performed, failed. Jared became our angel on December 9, 2007.
Jared's courage, love for life, sense of humor and smile will be remembered by all who knew him. He was an inspiration to so many in his short nine-year life, and will forever be our hero.
