My Story

4yr old Maddie is a little diva who loves, princesses, hello kitty, fashion and dancing. Maddie will always have a long road ahead of her because she was born with an incredibly rare bone marrow failure. It is so rare that is is #522 world wide and to date there are believed to be just over 700 worldwide. Maddie will be blood transfusion and IVIG dependent for the rest of her life due to the inability to produce red blood cells and because of her weakened immune system. She will always be on IV chelation 5 days a week because of a secondary disease caused by chronic transfusion, Iron Overload. She will always have to take great precautions not to catch something as simple as a cold or the flu or she may have an unwanted stay in the hospital. We will always have to have her marrow, blood and other organs checked for various forms of cancers because this disease is a precursor for many cancers. Because Maddie was born with this disease she doesn't know life without it so she misses nothing from life. She is so cheerful and loves her dolls and her Dora kitchen. She brings everyone who is around her such joy!!
