My Story

Liam was diagnosed with Leukemia in January 21, 2016 after blood work taken at his 2 year checkup showed a very high WBC and very low Platelets. It was a complete shock to not only us, but his pediatrician as well because he didn't show any signs of illness. He looked like a healthy little boy. The next several months consisted of many hospital visits filled with pokes, lumbar punctures and a lot of chemotherapy. There were also quite a few inpatient stays due to various infections (one that even put him on an antibiotic for over 7 months). After 2 disappointing Bone Marrow Biopsy results (that ultimately put him in the Very High Risk Group), we finally got the news we had been waiting for. On July 27th, 2016 we found out that Liam was MRD negative and was finally in Remission! He began Maintenance therapy on December 30th, 2016 and will continue treatment until the fall of 2019. While the road is still long for us, we hope and pray that Liam will continue to do well with treatment and be a survivor!
