My Story

Katelynn was born on April 29, 2011 at 5:52 p.m. She weighed 8 pounds and was 21 inches long. She had a head full of light strawberry blonde hair and was sweet but, did she have a set of lungs. She has always been a very strong-willed child. She enjoys playing soccer and flag football, play dates with her friends, swimming, swings, and she has a great love for art.

Christmas 2015, Katelynn was diagnosed with an ear infection. After numerous antibiotics, it never seemed to clear up. She was constantly tired. She was napping throughout the day, and going to bed nightly around 6:30-7 p.m. - which was not like her. Mom took her to her pediatrician, as her ear was still bothering her, thinking maybe there was something else wrong - I asked her pediatrician for a complete blood work up. The next day, the results came back. Her white blood count and platelets were extremely low, so we did another blood work up thinking there was an error within the lab. December 29, 2015, I was asked to take her to the hospital for additional testing. She underwent testing for 2 days, and on December 31, 2015 around 3:29 p.m., I was told my daughter has leukemia. She was diagnosed with standard risk Pre-B cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at 4 and a half years old. By January 29, 2016 she was in remission and the following 26 months she received treatment. On March 4, 2018 she completed her last dose of chemotherapy, and is still in remission. She will be considered cancer free March 4, 2023.
