Charlie Keith was a typical 3 year old boy until March 24, 2012 turned his life upside down. Charlie was admitted to OU Children’s Medical Center on March 23, 2012 and by the following day he was diagnosed with Stage IV High Risk Neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a rare form of childhood cancer that develops in the sympathetic nervous system. Charlie’s diagnosis was grim, as he had a softball size tumor attached to his adrenal gland, the neruoblastoma had also invaded his lymph nodes, bones, soft tissue, and bone marrow covering more than 60% of his body. Charlie immediately began a chemo regime and over a course of 5 months his tumor was able to be resected. However; Charlie still had prominent disease on his bones and in his bone marrow causing his parents to seek help from a neuroblastoma specialist out of Fort Worth, Texas. Charlie is now participating in a research trial that will hopefully get him cancer free.
