Ulrich was born with Neuroblastoma in his liver. He was considered stage 4s low risk. After 2 cycles of chemo his cancer began going away and after a couple months he was clear. We thought we were over this. 18 months later we found a relapse. Our worst fears became a reality. This time he was diagnose with stage 4 high risk. The doctors told us his survivoral risk wasnt looking good. Since he was over 18 months and with his diagnosis he was looking at 20% chance. He received 6 cycles of chemo, 2 surgeries, 14 rounds of radiation, and currently receiving immunotherapy. We have one more cycle to go and if he stays clear we can move on to the vaccine trial. He has been NED since September. You never think this will be pur child, what is the likely hood. The doctors told us this was rare and it was a surpise it came came back. We decieded to switch treatment from our home hospital to Sloan where we knew they treat and research so many cases of neuroblastoma. We didn't want to do stem cell transplant, we wanted less risky and harmful treatment plan for our baby. I feel like we will always be on our toes waiting for a relapse, but I am hopefully the worst is behind us. New treatments have made the difference in keeping our babies alive and are on the path to a cure for childhood cancer. Our little buddy has fought for his life and beat cancer twice in his 2 short years of life. He is our warrior and is bound for greatness.
