My Story

The night before Sophia’s 6th birthday we went to urgent care for a fever, shoulder and abdominal pain. The attending doctor did not feel comfortable sending us home under a respiratory infection because the main and associated symptoms were unusual for such. We were referred to the ER where we would do a couple CTs for further investigation. When the Doctor asked to speak with us outside , liver cancer was the last thing we expected to hear. I was in shock, her father in tears while trying to ask the right questions and figure out the next steps. That night we transferred to Methodist Children’s Hospital and are currently in treatment in hopes of tumor shrinkage and resection. As rare as this tumor is (1 out of 1000) we had no pre existing conditions but are still considered curable. Truly blessed in light of such heavy news. Looking back, knowing what we know now there were many little signs that no one could ever have guessed would lead to where we are now. Since treatment Sophia has gained her energy, many new toys and some great nurse friends ?.  Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick's Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
