I'm Cathy, Roxanne Lorraine Pickrell's mother. Our "Roxie" was diagnosed with a 4 centimeter brain tumor on October 11, 2019. She was a 13 year old, vibrant 7th grader, who loved life. She was brave upon hearing the news and ready to fight. Her tumor was successfully removed on October 14, 2019. It was actually larger than 4 centimeters; it was roughly the size of a baseball. After removal of the tumor, her family, friends, and I were ecstatic, thinking Roxie was going to have a successful, full recovery. Her father and I were informed on October 16, 2019 that the tumor was a mixed germ cell tumor, made up of teratoma and germinoma.....cancerous. Despite 24 days of waiting and continuous prayer, Roxie never regained full consciousness following removal of the tumor on October 14, 2019. She passed away due to related complications on November 6, 2019. She was scheduled to begin cancer treatment the week of Thanksgiving 2019. She did not make it that long. We deeply miss our daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, friend, and student. We try to find reason in the midst of a senseless tragedy. Thank you for supporting my Roxie, the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year, and their families. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick's Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
