Hi, my name is Mikey. I am 7 years old. I love being a cub scout and playing hockey. I was diagnosed with Chronic Myleoid Leukemia last March, after the doctor noticed my spleen was really big and my white blood cell count was really high. I stayed in he hospital for 5 days and then I had to stay home for a month before I could go back to school. My type of leukemia is different from the kind that most kids get. My leukemia, CML is usually found in older adults, so the chances of a kid getting it are 1 in 1 million. To treat my leukemia, I take medicine at home instead of going to the hospital to get it. There is another big difference too, my leukemia isn't curable. My leukemia is treatable with the medicine I take at home but I will probably have CML for the rest of my life (that's why I'm Mighty Mikey). Although I do not like having leukemia, I love that the ribbon is orange (that's my favorite color). And I am really thankful for the people who have come together to help and support me and my family. Because of that, I want to help other kids like me! So I want to say thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with chance like me, a better chance for a cure.
