Today we want to tell Lucia story on the we hope to bring light to Childhood Cancer.
Our beautiful Lucia, lover of foxes and butterflies was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Type B (ALL) on April 2017 at the tender age of 5.
4 months before diagnosis a mass showed up on her ear that kept on growing, It did not hurt, it was just there and it kept on growing, she was diagnosed as having cellulitis and was given all kinds of antibiotics, she also developed high fevers out of the blue and was tired often but the tiredness was blamed on her congenital heart issues and the fevers were probably just a “virus”, Lucia also had bruises on her legs and arms but the doctors said it was because all kids are “clumsy”... Mom and Dad looked for 2nd, 3rd and 4th opinions and visit many doctors at some point with real desperation, because they knew in their hearts something was terribly wrong, after relentless insisting an ENT doctor pickup on the signs and agreed to do a biopsy, 5 days latter she was diagnosed with a possible Lymphoma, but further testing showed Lucia had ALL type B.
The day of the biopsy we new something was wrong but we never imagined in a million years that our beautiful princess was about to face a fight for her life against childhood Cancer.
We were not Cancer parents the night of April 8, 2017. That changed on April 9, 2017 and we were welcome to the club no one wants to be a part of.
Lucia has been on treatment ever since, she achieved remission right after induction and on her journey she face some complications, but thanks to God it was nothings the doctors could not take care of and must importantly nothing that this warrior princes could not handle with a brave heart and supernatural strength. She is an inspiration to many and her heart of Gold is what remains us everyday that we can not give up for a single minute and we need to do everything on our power to help every kid waiting for hope.
Finally, Lucia has reached remission status and she keeps on being our Superhero!
