My Story
Jayde is a sweet, spunky, almost 3 year old and is the middle sister of three girls. On December 20, 2023 she was diagnosed with Stage 2 Wilms Tumor. This is her story. On December 20, 2023 Jayde's mom took her to her primary care provider with complaints of abdominal distension. What was thought to be a quick visit ended up being a day filled with x-rays, a trip to the ER, scans, blood tests. Tests showed two tumors were engulfing her left kidney; Jayde and her family were moved to the in-patient floor of the hospital. This would be the first night of many on the Akron Children's Hematology/Oncology floor. Two days later, on December 22, 2023, surgery was performed to remove her left kidney. Pathology reports came back positive for Stage 2 Wilms Tumor with favorable histology. A short 11 days later, Jayde started a 22 week Chemotherapy regimen. To add some light to this story, in February, a short time after Jayde began chemo, she became a big sister to a baby sister!Upon completion of chemo, end of treatment scans showed a couple spots had developed in her right lung. A Wedge Resection of her right lung was performed on July 11th at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. The results of the surgery came back positive for metastatic disease. She was moved to Stage 4 Wilms with Metastatic Disease to the lung, still favorable histology. On August 13, 2024 Jayde began a new 42 Treatment plan consisting of Chemotherapy and Radiation. She completed 8 rounds of Radiation from September 23-October 2nd; the end of Radiation scans showed a positive response. The cocktail of chemotherapy drugs that Jayde receives causes dangerously low Hemoglobin, ANC and Platelet levels. Therefore, Jayde has received countless blood and platelet transfusions. This is why it is so important to donate blood - children like Jayde are dependent on it!
Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick's Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
