Patrick was diagnosed in October of 2010 with stage II intermediate risk Hepatoblastoma. A rare liver cancer. He had surgery on October 15th to remove the tumor, the left lobe of his liver and one of his lymph nodes. After extensive review of the tumor they deemed it hepatoblastoma and he was given 2 weeks to recover from surgery before beginning chemotherapy. He received Cisplatin, 5FU, and Vincristine for 4 months. After the third cycle he went for his scans and was found to be clear of any new growth. He is currently cancer free and only has regular checkups monthly and bi-annual scans. Patrick is a fantastic little man. He struggles with cognitive function and high frequency hearing loss due to his cancer. In 2017 the doctors noticed some lesions on his spine, after watching them grow slowly for years they did a biopsy and found that they are Avascular Necrosis. They do t really know why he has these lesions as none of the medicines he was given cause this issue, so we continue to monitor him closely and work really hard on making him better. Patrick loves gaming and Netflix binges and especially loves math and science. He isn't really sure what he wants to be when he grows up but we are thankful to St. Baldrick's foundation and the doctors and researchers for giving him the oportunity TO GROW UP. Our family is dedicated to raising funds for research for better...safer cures and for more treatment options for the lesser known cancers under the childhood cancer umbrella.
