Alexis was diagnosed with ALL (leukemia) during her 6-year-old check up. What we thought was a simple rash led us to this diagnosis. She underwent chemotherapy for 2 1/2 years to try and cure her, and is now in remission. She tolerated the chemo pretty well with minimal side effects, but did end up with seizures and a paralyzed soft palette as a result. Despite that, her spirit was amazing through it all and she took each new challenge with a great attitude! She has a smile on her face at all times (when she isn't making funny faces at the nurses and doctors). She is truly our inspiration for handling whatever life throws at you!
We just hope that kids don't have to endure what she did...from the sticks and pokes...to the chemo ravishing through their bodies...to nasty side effects....to missing so much school and normal kid activities. Therefore, we would like to help organizations like St. Baldrick's raise money to find a cure to eliminate others from experiencing this. Thank you for supporting me and the more than 300,000 kids worldwide who will be diagnosed with cancer this year. By sharing the gifts of your time, talent and money with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, you're supporting research to give all kids with cancer a better chance for a cure.
We are happy to report that Alexis reach 5 years out and is now considered cancer free! She has some long term effects of the chemo, but nothing we can't overcome. She is thriving and happy and is everyone's biggest cheerleader!
