May 17, 2014 our lives were changed. That Saturday morning I took Ady to the pediatrician office because of some bruises that would not go away. We were sure she was just anemic, we were so wrong. The doctor did a complete blood count and was very concerned and sent us directly to Duke in Durham to meet with the oncology team. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).The next few days were filled with doctors sharing information and words we could not understand. I am so thankful for family and a dear family friend that stepped in to help us understand and take notes. I remember our room 5123 being filled with so many people some had to sit on the floor. Ady had her first round of chemo, port inserted, bone marrow aspiration, and then many other things happened over the next few days. 29 days later we heard the amazing news that her cancer was in remission. This was the whole point of the Induction phase. We have finished 10 months of intense chemo and Ady is now in the Maintenance phase of treatment. We return to Duke monthly for IV chemos and lumbar punctures, along with taking oral chemo and other meds at home. Her journey is not over, but progress is being made. God has brought us through the last many months and will bring us through the next 2 years and beyond. CANCER SUCKS!! but Ady is showing it can be beat. THANK YOU TO ‪#‎AdysARMY‬!!
