3rd Annual Rock for Brett Concert for a Cause - Benefitting Childhood Cancer Research

We helped to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team Brett 2023 at Helen Fitzgerald’s Irish Grill and Pub

The St. Baldrick's Foundation–Team Brett 2023 is helping fund pediatric cancer research by holding its 3rd annual Rock for Brett St. Baldrick's Concert featuring Torchlight Parade with Red White and Floyd and Jojo Matea on Saturday, April 22 at the St. Louis Casa Loma Ballroom, 3354 Iowa Ave, St. Louis, MO 63118 with proceeds benefiting the St. Baldrick's Foundation Team Brett 2023.Brett was diagnosed at the age of 11 with an aggressive form of brain cancer called Anaplastic Astrocytoma. Brett went through unimaginable suffering during his 3½ year fight against this relentless disease. He endured 7 weeks of proton radiation, 5 different forms of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, 6 brain surgeries, several blood transfusions, countless hospital visits, scans, tests and needle sticks.Despite the outstanding treatment he received at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Brett passed away on January 10, 2018. He was 14 years old and a freshman at Bishop DuBourg High School. Brett spent the last weeks of his life confined to a wheelchair and then to his bed.Cancer kills more children in the United States than any other disease, more than many other diseases combined, and 1 in 5 children diagnosed with cancer will not survive. Yet only 8% of the National Cancer Institute's budget is dedicated to childhood cancer research. While these statistics are sobering, we are making progress in the fight against childhood cancer. Since 2015, Team Brett 2023 has raised over $137,000.00 to fund pediatric brain cancer research, with most of that money invested right here in St. Louis through the physicians and researchers at Siteman Kids/St. Louis Children's Hospital. Team Brett 2023 has helped fund a St. Baldrick's Research Grant that was awarded to Dr. Josh Rubin at Washington University in St. Louis for his work on medulloblastoma, an aggressive grade 4 brain cancer. Dr. Rubin was one of the pediatric oncologists who treated Brett at St. Louis Children's Hospital, so this award has special meaning to us.Hope, Strength, Faith, Courage
